Choca's NUBIAN INSPIRED Beaded Style!

Hey all,

A fellow blogger of mine wanted to know HOW I got this style for Choca, so I figured I'd put it out there, just in case you all wanted to try it.  Shout out to Chloe over at Baby Big Hair for giving me the idea for this post!!! Please go to her blog and CHECK IT OUT!! She has amazing features, this being my FAVORITE one!!! :) Let her know I sent you!!

I call this style the NUBIAN INSPIRED Beaded Style... Why?? Because it reminds me of a style a Beautiful African Queen would wear (Yes, in AFRICA they were beads at all times... at all ages... I love it...SHOUT OUT TO MY FOLKS!!) So, I decided to try this style on Choca.

Products I used:

Water
Proclaim Tea Tree Leave In Conditioner
Blue Magic Organics Indian Hemp Hair And Scalp Conditioner
Beads (any color will do)
(2) silver filigree hair ornaments
Rubber Bands

I separated her hair into five sections (THREE in the front and TWO sections in the back) I then put the back into my FAMOUS Faux Hawk style that I love so much... I cornrowed her hair inward in the back and I beaded the loose braids to give it some 'specialness'... I then took the right and left side of the front of her head and cornrowed it downward into three braids, beading the ends up and adding a cowry shell on the end of the front braids...for a little flair!!!

Now, onto the TOP center portion.  I made sure that it was parted into a diamond, because it added that extra POW that I wanted in this style. I cornrowed it into her face and then beaded the loose braid.  After beading it, I looped it and rubber banded it at the top.  I then put a silver filigree hair ornament over the rubber band, to cover it.  To add the cowry shell, I used some plastic covered metal wiring, and wrapped it THROUGH the cowry shell, and then around the hair... I covered the wire with another silver filigree hair ornament.  And VOILA... Done!

And, in PERFECT Choca fashion, she posed up a bit:

One of my favorite pictures of all time!! FIST UP! :) <3

Taking her running stance! :)
To cover her head at night, I simply used a du-rag (SHOUTING OUT THAT GOOD GOOD), and this style lasted TWO weeks!! I sprayed Tea Tree Leave In Conditioner on her head everyday and greased her scalp every few days... Worked like a charm!!

Mommy's sleepy baby!! <3 With that du-rag on!! :) <3
Great style, with great flair!! Two of my favorite things!! :) <3

Love this hair style. Yes, a lot of African cultures love beaded hair styles. That culture is gradually fading though. You only see beads on kids, brides and some queens (on very special occasions).
Love your blog!
Much love from Africa!
