Repurposed Hairstyle For BB!!! *I KNEW IT*

Hey all,

So.... I did a post on BB's hair  (BB's Protective Style for Week!?!?)...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell...

It didn't really pan out.  She came home and her bun was NOT the business...

Yes... We Peaced Out that style... Time to Repurpose!!!

I decided to give her a side cornrow.  Something quick until I can get to twisting her hair this weekend.

How long did it take to do this style? 5 minutes!!!

First, I sprayed her hair down with water... Just water!

I took out the box braids on the right side of her head, cornrowed the loose hair on the cornrowed/flat twisted goodness, and braided that braid into the side cornrow.

Simple and neat:

Now, I KNOW this style won't last all week, but it'll be SOOOOO easy to redo!! :)

And... She absolutely LOVES it!! Another Win/Win! :)

Homeschooling/Unschooling: Reading

Hey all,

So... really quick... I ran across and email for a cool site today that I think all of you homeschooling/unschooling parents should check out.  It's called:

http://readingeggs.com

This site looks FANTASTIC and has FANTASTIC things for parents to teach to their children!!

*taken from the site*

99.6% of parents who use Reading Eggs online reading program have seen a significant increase in their child's reading abilities

98% of teachers recommend the Reading Eggs program to other teachers

Over 2,000 elementary schools across the U.S. are using Reading Eggs in their classrooms

Won two national awards for being the #1 online learn to read program

Reading Eggs have already successfully taught over 500,000 kids how to read

Kids and Parents Love Reading Eggs because:Reading Eggs program grabs your child's attention

It allows kids to play without realizing that they are learning

It incorporates fun with learning and allows kids to fall in love with reading

It teaches reading skills and reinforces reading skills that are being taught

Kids learn at their own pace

It keeps kids interested in learning with the fun and animated games, activities and reward points that serve as
an incentive for your child to continue to learn

It's a great learning tool to introduce your child to computers

The reading program is highly customized to your child's learning level

It encourages and motivates kids to learn to read with positive interactions with fun animated characters that can be customized by your child

It allows kids to make sense of how letters sound and words work

The Reading Eggs Learning ProcessThis powerful educational program is based on the most up-to-date research on how children learn to read.

It tracks your child's progress so you will know exactly what your child is learning and what your child needs to focus on

When children start Reading Eggs, they can complete a placement quiz to ensure they are starting at the correct reading level.

The lessons use animation, music, activities and a reward system to keep children motivated and engaged.

Reading Eggs is designed to allow children to learn at their own pace.

Children want to come back because they are having fun as they learn.

Reading Eggs is easily accessible anywhere so your child can pick up where they left off when they go to grandma's house.

Reading Eggs is a secure environment, free of annoying advertising so your child can learn without any interference.

Your children will—

Learn skills

Children complete animated online lessons where they will learn the 5 essential elementsof reading, Phonemic awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension. Thevariety of fun activities within each lesson provides the repetition needed for these skills to become part of long term memory.

Read books

Every lesson ends with a new book. This allows children to gain confidence by reading books that only contain words they have already learned in the program.

Earn rewards

Children earn golden eggs as rewards for completing lessons. They can use these eggs to buy reward games, avatar features to customize their own avatar and items to personalize their virtual playhouse.

Take Quizzes

After every 10 lessons, children complete a Mastery Quiz. This provides you with a report of what your children are learning. Children can repeat the online lessons as many times as they like. Young children enjoy repetition and it has great benefits too, as it helps them learn.

The site says that this is a great program for 7-13 year olds, but you know me... I'm going to get Choca started early!!!

And... AND... AND... They  have a free code to get FIVE WEEKS of free usage!!

Use Promo Code: USH28HME

I will let you know how it all pans out for us.  If you all use it, keep me posted on how it goes for you as well!! :)

BB's Protective Style for Week!?!?

Hey all...

So... I put the (!?!?) up because BB's hair is going through a HUGE growth spurt, and it's doing it's own thing right now... So, although I have a style planned at the beginning of the week, the changes and the OWNER of the hair NOT covering it properly brings about a change every now and again...

Products Used:

Water
Proclaim Sapphire Bergamot Conditioning Hair Dress

I got this great idea to do a cornrowed/flat twisted section in her hair.  So, I did four cornrows inside and two on either side of the cornrows, in a V formation, on the left side of her head:

On the left side, I braided her hair into three nice sized box braids, and intertwined them:

I then put the back of her hair into a bun... off to the side... minus the sock! *INSERT LAUGHTER HERE*

And done!

It took me about 25 minutes to put this all together and we were both happy!! WIN/WIN!!!

I hope this style intrigued your minds and got your fingers itching to try something new on yourselves or your little ones!!

Winter Hair Care!! #HairCarnival #NaturalHairCare

Hey all,

So...
*~*...as the sun cools off and the chill gets stronger...*~*

...We switch up JUST a bit on our hair are regimen.  With three daughters and myself set on keeping our hair healthy and retain our growth, it's a MUST to switch up every now and again.

Now, we're on the West Coast, so snow and REALLY cold winters are NOT a part of our lives out here... BUT, with the colder weather comes some changes.

So, what do we do on The Avenue in the colder months???

***In the colder months, I don't wash our hair as much.  I don't even RINSE our hair as much. It's not necessary on our hair.  It doesn't get as dirty as it does when the sun is constantly beaming down on us.

***I do a DC treatment once a month/month and a half.  The DC treatment consists of:

Cholesterol Conditioner with Aloe Extract
Natural 7 Oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Olive Miracle Growth Oil
(mix it together, apply it to our water wet hair, cover w/a plastic baggy for 30(Choca), 60(BB), 120(CC &I) minutes, rinse out and style)

***Protective Styling!!!!! You all know I'm a huge fan of it all year-round, but it's a MUST during these months.  (1) - The least amount of manipulation possible. (2) - Less work for me! :)

***SEAL, SEAL, SEAL!! Again, that's another year-round thing for me, but during these months, it's imperative to keep the ends right and tight, so they don't split and dry up.  How do I do this?? Well, if you must know:

YEPPERS!! Mixed with a conditioner/oil/water concoction:

Suave Professionals Humectant Conditioner
Suave Professionals Damage Care

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Water

That right there works WONDERS on the Avenue!!!

My favorite greases for the winter??

Why? Because they are thick and keep our hair protected in the cold weather.

***Hats, Kufis, Tams, Beanies, Scarves, etc.  We are all about covering our crowns and keeping them safe!! :)

***And, of course we always cover our heads at night with satin bonnets or du-rags!! That is another year-round deal over here!! :)

However, other than that, our regimen is the same.  :) Again, where we stay, it doesn't get too cold . So we don't really have too many changes to make (YAAAY US!)

So, that's our Winter Hair Care Routine!! Pretty basic (the way I like it), and easy peasy! :)

I hope you find this post helpful!!!

Polka-Dot Prettiness!! Happy Monday! :) *PINK OVERDOSE*

Hey all!

So, today Choca, BB and I are under the weather.   We have major colds going on!! We are sitting up in a house filled with the smell of lemon, ginger, VapoRub and cayenne pepper... and it smells so good!! For my prayer warriors, send those prayers up! :)

Anyway, EVEN though we don't feel well, Choca gave me the camera!! If you all didn't know, taking pictures is a HUGE pastime of mine and Choca TRULY enjoys having her picture taken.

So, she brought me a cute polka dot dress (that we found at WalMart on clearance for $3.00).  I paired it with a cute pink headband and flower!!!

Then, I got to taking pictures!!!

Even with them being under the weather, they manage to be as beautiful as can be!!!

I hope this brightens your Monday, folks!!! I wanted to put something up, even though I'm feeling out of it! :)

Much love all!!

Homeschooling/Unschooling: Colors (Pt. 2)

Hey all!!

So, I did a HOMESCHOOLING/UNSCHOOLING: COLORS video before.  During that session, we used Captain America Fruit Snacks in order for her to call out the colors, with a 'prize' at the end! :)

This time, we actually used her COLOR flashcards.  And YES... There is a video.

You know... Homeschooling a young child like Choca is something else.  She's all over the place and loves doing her own thing... BUT, my patience level is able to deal with that (THANK GOD!!).  So, without further ado, here you all go:

AHAHA!! Choca is all over the place... She has it though, and that's what's important!! I truly enjoy homeschooling this little one!! :) She makes it so fun!

I hope you all got a kick out of Miss Choca as well! :)
